A classic Algarve wedding with a church ceremony and a garden reception at a private quinta surrounded by century-old olive trees. Monte das Oliveiras offers the kind of light you can't manufacture, golden in the late afternoon, filtered through dense vegetation, casting long shadows across the garden as guests settle in for dinner.
Michelle arrived at the ceremony in a clean-cut dress, no ornaments. Odhran in a dark suit. The combination worked precisely because of that restraint, nothing competing with the space or the moment. The floral arrangements, white and green, dense at the centre tables, were the only permitted excess, and it worked.
I photographed the ceremony at the local church, then followed the couple through the afternoon at the quinta. Cocktail hour unfolded between the olive trees. Dinner outside, long tables lit by candlelight. I left before the night closed in, the garden still full.
What stayed in the frames, the stillness of the two of them before the ceremony, the late afternoon light over the garden, and a handful of moments between guests that no one else saw happen.
